THE 1ST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

ON DEMOCRACY AND SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION (ICON-DEMOST)

“Humanity And The Changing Of Social And Political Lanscape In Post COVID-19 World”

BACKGROUND

The Covid-19 is considered as among global events that has caused major changes to the world since the end of the second world war. By the end of 2020 this virus has infected more than 60 million people globally and has killed 1.5 million of them. The virus has led to fundamental changes in various areas such as health, social, economic and political as well as posing new challenges for the future of global humanity.

The pandemic outbreak has also affected the global political order and political processes in various parts of the world. A government policy in dealing with the pandemic has a significant effect on public satisfaction and the popularity of the government. The failure of Donald Trump in the United States General Election is an indication for the decline of Trump’s electability due to his ineffective policies for COVID 19. The pandemic has also been used to overthrow a democratically elected government. As happened in Myanmar. The military took over the power of the democratically elected Aung San Suu Kyi. Violations of the Health protocol during the pandemic is among the reasons that used by the military to arrest this Myanmar democracy figure.

Based on above background, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UIN Walisongo Semarang Indonesia is organizing an international conference to create a space for academic conversation as an effort to generate ideas for the future of humanity after the COVID-19. The International conference also aims to develop scientific frameworks, enhance institutional capacities, and foster academic international cooperation.
